Newborn (birth to 2 months) 20" x 28" before washing, after washing about 19" x 27"

One-Size (2 months and up) 28" x 30"  before washing, after washing about 25.5" x 26"

All sizes are approximate. Shrinkage varies.

Need an even bigger size? This is also available in Swaddle/XLarge size.

How do you use a rectangular newborn flat?   Fold in one end and it becomes a square!   Then use the regular flat folds for square diapers from there, or just pad fold it.

muslin flat diaper wrapped around a baby

Shown is a size One-Size wrapped around baby with ends tucked in. No pins or fastener.  Of course you can use a fastener but it works OK to wrap and tuck since a wrap style diaper cover put over it helps to hold it together. See more pictures.  There are many ways to use these.  It's not scary!   They wash up so easy and the fabric is just amazing. The rave reviews are real and true. Try a six-pack.  If you don't love them as diapers, you have the best dishcloths ever that will last for years and years.  Size Newborn is the perfect dish drying towel. You can't go wrong owning a pack of flats.

One-Size will work under size small covers or larger, but not size newborn, and will fit until potty learning.

Size One-Size is about same size as our size Small/One-Size Birdseye Flat diaper, but this fabric is thicker so it is too big for newborn babies.

how to use a flat muslin cloth diaper on a newborn baby  This is a size One-Size on a newborn baby.  Use a cover that is big enough to fit over all that diaper if you skip newborn size Muslin.  It is a lot of diaper for a new baby.   Perhaps just don't use a cover.  There is plently of absorbency, as much as a size medium red edge prefold, so if you wrap baby in a wool swaddle, it can work during the daytime just like that since you change newborn babies pretty much constantly anyhow.   There are so many ways to cloth diaper a new baby.   Flats don't have any elastic or bumpy snaps or anything to disturb their comfort. Made of organically grown unbleached cotton.   This fabric stays the softest of all of the natural fiber diapers.

What is it? The words muslin and gauze mean the same thing. These are double weave, not the single weave that the popular swaddle blankets are. "Double weave" means that it is basically two layers of cloth woven together on the same loom at the same time to form one thicker layer. That's an oversimplification of the weaving process, but you end up with one layer of thicker fabric than you do from single weaving, yet it is still a one-layer fabric. Thicker means more absorbent, yet since it is still one layer, it has a nice, soft hand. It washes and dries easily and quickly!

This is another option for economical organic cloth diapering. It is like the made of Organic Birdseye Flat Diapers in size One-Size, or about a half inch bigger, but the sizes do vary due to shrinkage variations. These contain slightly more cotton so they are slightly more absorbent. The muslin (gauze) weave is a different weave, slightly thicker, than the birdseye weave, but they really are very similar. The absorbency is comparable to a size medium red edge prefold, whereas the Birdseye (Small/One-Size) is just bit less absorbent than these; closer to a size small yellow edge prefold or a bit more than a yellow edge small but less than a medium red edge prefold. These double weave muslin (gauze) will win in a side by side absorbency test. The birdseye is thus trimmer. So, that means that this muslin diaper in size One-Size is really too big on a newborn baby since it is bulkier, so that is why we offer size Newborn.

Since they are unbleached, please wash several times on hot before first use to prep them.  The natural cotton oils present in unbleached cotton must be washed off in those first several hot washes before full absorbency is reached.  Easy to wash, quick to dry. Made in Pakistan.

They work just like the Birdseye Diaper. See pictures. This is a relatively new item and we don't have many pictures of this on a baby yet, but the Birdseye pictures are very relevant since they are so similar. Watch our exclusive GMD How To Fold Flat Diapers Video Tutorial!

compare muslin and birdseye

Both of these Cloth-eez diapers start with the same organic cotton so the softness is very comparable even though they are woven differently.

Cloth-eez Muslin Diaper is an organic cotton double weave gauze diaper. Made in Pakistan.

Please wash several times in hot water before first use. Link to more washing information.

Consider Size Large Birdseye Organic Flats which has equivalent absorbency of the size one-size muslin flat.

Multi-Purpose and Perfect

I have these in both one size and newborn and plan to purchase the extra large when we are getting closer to needing them. We love them. I was a bit intimidated at first because they seemed complicated. However, my husband and I have both found ourselves reaching for these during the day as they are so trim and absorbent. We pair them with a trifolded preemie prefold for a little boost in absorbency. We also pair them with wool covers. We have not had a leak yet. We also love that we are now able to use the newborn size as burp cloths. Our little one has reflux and these absorb the mess so much better than any other burp cloth with have. Bonus that they are long enough to keep my back dry as well!

Great burp cloths too!

I love these flats! Organic and great quality. I really like the feel of them - strong and durable but soft too. They work great as big burp rags as well! Our son has been having issues with puking and big spit ups, so they have been good for catching all that.

AIO Convert

We were planning a 9 day cross country trip and balking at the price (and waste) of disposable diapers. I read about the Flat Diaper Challenge and figured we might as well give flats a try for this trip! We’re normally a Blueberry Simplex All in One family. We like the simplicity. But flats were so... easy. We could handwash them. I used the IKEA hanging octopus to dry them and it took....2 hours to air dry? When we got to our final destination, we just threw them in the washer with our normal clothes and they came out perfectly clean and dry. Since they aren’t this huge bulky AIO layered system, the water easily penetrated through the fibers for a great clean. We brought 18 for our trip and did laundry every 2 days. I thought that was a good amount and it didn’t take up much room at all. I’m selling all of my wool covers and Sustainable Babyish OBFs in favor of these flats, doubled with a hemp booster and Blueberry Capri cover. So much better. Zero leaks. No hassle of wool for my heavy wetter. We did the origami fold, which my husband picked out. The snappi was useful for that fold and I’d recommend it. I also loved how many I could fit into the wet bag for dirty diapers. I wish I had started with these from the beginning! For the in-laws, we just pad folded them into the covers. Not a perfect solution, and I really missed my AIOs for them, but it worked! I’m excited to put these flats into our rotation at home. Oh! And they were so useful for other things. They were a blanket, a sunshade in the car, a diaper changing pad, a bib, a towel, a drop cloth under the high chair, and a rag for cleaning messes. FLATS ARE NOT HARD. Order half a dozen and try them. You really won’t regret it!

great diaper flats!

Best diaper flats we own, and have less leakage than any of our other diapers (prefold, flat or pocket) when used as a flat and not as an insert. Is quite thick and absorbent. I haven't tried using these as an insert yet because our baby is six months old and would probably make a diaper cover very bulky. Diaper flats aren't that difficult and I love these! One downside is that the baby does try to escape during diaper changes and these take a few seconds longer than a pocket style diaper to fasten and the baby's attention span for diaper changes is very, very short. I have gotten faster!

Super soft and super absorbent!

We initially bought thise for out heavy wetter who we couldn’t figure out the best way to stuff his pockets. But we wound up falling in love with the workhorses, but still loving the absorbency of these. We use half of what we bought to stuff my sons nighttime pockets with NO leaks, and then we are going to use the other flats for our soon to be 5th babies swaddles because they are so warm and soft!
