When Thirsties Duo size 2 is getting too small on your toddler, the size Large cover is the next size up. Large is bigger than Duo size 2 but smaller than Duo size 3. It has room enough inside for a nighttime diaper.
The newborn-preemie size is suitable for preemies or for those who want something tiny and not bulky that truly fits your brand new full term baby for the couple of weeks. Use this over a preemie, newbie or newborn prefold (but not for over Newborn Workhorse since this cover is tiny).
The x-small size is good over Workhorse size small or for skipping size newborn diapers and starting in small or novice size prefolds. Understand that is will be big at first but it can be workable and newborn babies do grow quickly.
Size small fits over the size medium Workhorse and size medium fits over the size large Workhorse, generally. Don't go by just the size name (such as "small") but instead pay attention to the weight ranges because the size names vary from product to product. When planning your diaper stash, remember that paper and pen notes still work very well to help you figure things out.
There are no rise snaps on this cover.
The tiny Newborn/Preemie size is only available in the hook and loop closure version. In the picture the medium is not spread out well and it is really bigger than this picture makes it look. Go to SNAP VERSION.

Thirsties is a simple wrap-style cover with leg gussets. It is an exposed laminate cover which is also referred to as a "wipe-clean" interior. The PUL (waterproofing) is exposed on the inside for a more slick, wipe-clean surface. Simple and effective. 100% polyester with TPU laminate. FREE of VOCs, PVC, phthalates, lead, and latex. Made in the USA.
Preemie/Newborn is for tiny newborns. Oak and Acorn limited edition print pictured has sold out but this picture still shows this tiny size nicely. In size Large, this is one of the few covers that fits really well over the XL Workhorse or XL Prefolds. Actually having a cover that fits correctly is important in both the small and large sizes. Most adjustable covers are really adjustable "mediums" and don't fit well on newborns or bigger toddlers.

I've used basic Thirsties diaper covers exclusively for both my babies. I've mostly been able to source them secondhand, and they hold up so well, are easy for any member of the family to us, don't leak, easy to clean, and come in lots of cute patterns. I like the hook and loop best for ease, and am so grateful they have the added velcro back tab. Generously cut, but can be adjusted to fit just a pre-fold, or even over a bulkier fitted diaper. My favorite cloth diaper cover of all time.
Both of my babies were small at birth (6 lbs). This size was great for those first few weeks, I'd say 0-4 weeks. I used it with the Preemie size prefold and the Newbord size prefold. The newborn workhorse is a little bulky underneath, but I actually prefer the prefolds anyway. If your baby is 7.5 lbs or more at birth you probably don't need this size.
I like the fit of these over the prefolds. They have enough room across the bottom that I don’t have to stuff the prefold in around the leg gussets after fastening to make sure we won’t have any leaks. I have the Thirsties That have the adjustable snaps for the various ages, but I really like the sized cover. I’m also a fan of the hook and loop closure. I just don’t like to mess with the snaps. aaaaand I like the wipe clean-ability so I can keep using ithe same one all day as long as it doesn’t get baby poop on it. I just air it out as I’m changing his little bum then put it right back on with the clean prefold.
I just started cloth diapering with my 4th child at 6 months old. GMD gave me all the info I needed on getting started. There is a lot to read, but the more you read, the more successful you'll be with your cloth diaper experience. I have purchased the Thirsties sized diaper cover and the duo size 2 diaper cover. Quality:The quality of the Thirties diaper wrap covers are wonderful. I haven't had any leaks at all. I love the double gussets on them. I use them with a prefold medium clotheez insert. Fit: I have a very small baby, almost 14 lbs. at 6 months. I ordered a medium sized diaper cover and size 2 duo wrap. They fit, but it is very bulky. I typically use the typical cloth diaper fold since I have so much extra prefold or if I pad fold, I fold the front down. I'm going to downsize the covers and prefold for a more trim fit and see how I like that. The duo cover is more trim than the sized diaper. Clothing: Since these sizes are very bulky on my baby, pants do not fit over them, especially leggings, which I prefer in cooler weather, although, the bubble type summer rompers do fit over them without being too bulky. The velcro is good quality and is easy to use. I am definitely pleased with the Thirsties and clotheez brands. The free diaper care guide was very helpful from GMD. The shipping was super fast!
I was a fan of snaps because I thought the velcro in these would lose their stickiness with all the washing but I was wrong, they have hold up perfectly. We love these, specially when you want to change diapers quickly in the middle of the night. Awesome quality as expected with thirsties
