I have purchased and used both the organic cotton and the bamboo/organic cotton.
I have purchased and used both the organic cotton and the bamboo/organic cotton. I like them both but have come to prefer the organic cotton over the bamboo. The pro of the bamboo is that it has a very nice sateen feel, however, this may be one of the reasons I don't prefer this diaper over the organic cotton. It does feel nice to the touch but when folding to put on baby with a snappy the fabric likes to slide and not stay in place as easily when folded. This is not the case with the organic prefold. The organic prefold is also soft without the sateen like texture and stays in place making it much easier to wrap and secure especially on a wiggly baby. The bamboo also takes extra drying time. I can dry the organic in one drying cycle and they are completely dry where the bamboo are still damp in the middle area. My daughter is now in the red organic prefold (she is a little chubby and the yellow could no longer fit around her waist at 18 lbs/8mo) during the day with a snappy and small Thirsties cover, no leaks. At night we "double stuff" with a orange newborn prefold inside the red prefold and a snappy with the medium Thirsties cover, no leaks, and she is a heavy wetter who still likes to nurse at night. I have tried cloth diapering in the past and have not been nearly as satisfied as I have been with this combination of organic prefolds and Thirsties covers. I only regret not trying them sooner!
These made newborn diapering a dream come true!!!!! This is my second baby, and my first time cloth diapering, for my newborn diapering stage I got 24 orange edge prefolds, 4 covers, one 3 pack of snappis, a cheap diaper pail and two pail liners.
These made newborn diapering a dream come true!!!!! This is my second baby, and my first time cloth diapering, for my newborn diapering stage I got 24 orange edge prefolds, 4 covers, one 3 pack of snappis, a cheap diaper pail and two pail liners...There was nothing else I needed!!!!!! I loved my newborn prefolds so much!! My baby is 5 months old now and I still use them as nighttime doublers in his pocket diapers. I tried out all the different folds and even diaper pinning! Loved experimenting with these, and it was great bonding time with my son...all in all perfect diapers!!! Now that we're in pocket diapers, I find myself looking at prefolds going, "I miss you!!"
I ordered the newborn orange edge size and medium red edge size prefolds last week.
I ordered the newborn orange edge size and medium red edge size prefolds last week. I got them in and just finished prepping them and already I'm not to happy with them. The newborn size seems fine but the medium ones peeled a lot, not only that but the stitching in the middle was coming undone. I'm really questioning the quality of these prefolds. Baby is coming soon and I'm not sure I want to use these, at lease not the medium ones. Response from Green Mountain Diapers: We are happy to replace defective products. Just use the Contact Us link at the lower left of the navigation bar and we do send replacements promptly. I'm sorry about the sewing problem.
Love these prefolds_they are such good quality and wash up so easily.
Love these prefolds_they are such good quality and wash up so easily. Once I figured out the best way to get them snappied on my son they have done great at holding in breastfed poo which is a big plus. I used newborn size for him and now we are using small. But I recently bought some medium and large just to have on hand for down the road since I know I'll use them.
I never thought I'd be a prefold person, but when we got home from the hospital with my 5-lb daughter, none of of the newborn fitted and AIO diapers I'd purchased fit her.
I never thought I'd be a prefold person, but when we got home from the hospital with my 5-lb daughter, none of of the newborn fitted and AIO diapers I'd purchased fit her. And premie-size disposable diapers are ridiculously expensive. So I bought a dozen newborn size Cloth-eez prefold, a snappi and a couple NB-size Bummis Super Brites. For weeks, this was the only setup that never ever leaked on us. Later, I bought a dozen size-small prefolds, then a dozen in size medium -- this time the organic version (which I find softer and stretchier in both the prefold and workhorse versions). Five months later, I've returned to work and I thought I might have to stop using my beloved prefolds. Nope. Now I tri-fold those size-small prefolds and use them stuff the BG 4.0 pockets I leave for grandma to use. Haven't had a leak yet, and they save me the hassle of dealing with microfiber inserts. And I still get to use my medium-size prefolds and covers on days I'm not working. The only real con of using prefolds is that my own mom is always telling me how bulky they look on my daughter under her Flip covers, but who cares, this is what works for us -- even if it is kind of an old-fashioned solution.
