placed in Bummis Super size newborn
Just the right thickness and absorbency for a young baby
Layer 2 or 3 diapers for an older baby. Use unpinned in wrap style cover, or pin it under anything.
Can be pinned or snappied. This is Snappi fastened. This is 2 Flat Diapers. One on the outside that you can see which is Snappied. Inside this is another flat folded up long and thin like a doubler.
There are many fancy folds you can find pictures of how to do online. I'm not coordinated enough for them. But, I am familiar with prefolds, so I make my flats into "prefolds", that is, I make them the same shape as a prefold. ANY size prefold. Like this:
Fold one end to get your desired length
For extra absorbency for older babies, I fold a second flat into a narrow rectangle.
Fold sides in to get the width you want.
Doesn't it look like a prefold now? Rainbow Short prefold shown on right for reference.
Pins work nicely with flats. Or use unpinned in Bummis or other cover.

On a newborn, use the origami fold shown above, then fold the back down to make it shorter, then:

fold up the wing to make it narrower
fold in the wing then bring it to the front
same thing, other side: fold up wing to narrow, fold in, bring to front
attaching snappi

Thirsties Cover size XS. The larger newborn covers work over this, such as Litewrap, Imse Vimse, Thirsties, pull-ons and wools. But not Bummis newborn covers. Bummis don't have enough height at the hip for this much diaper.

Our size small is 27"x27" before washing. After washing size small is about 25"x27".
Our medium size is in unbleached only, and they are 32" x31" before washing. Fully shrunk they are about 28"x30". Our size large is 34.5"x34.5" before washing and about 31"x32" after washing.
I like the size small on newborns and young babies, and either the medium or large from about 13 or 14 or so pounds and up.
You don't need both medium and large, pick either size but not both because they are quite similar. White or unbleached? I think the white has that nice, classic look which I love, but side by side the unbleached is a little bit softer, but not by much since both are soft. If you want to have one size birth to potty learning, then pick the medium unbleached. We made the small and large sizes because that really is my first preference: small on newborns and large on older babies, which is still a very economical (and fun!) way to diaper.
