Thicker means more absorbent yet since it is really still one layer, it has a nice, soft hand and washes and dries easily and quickly. After shrinkage it is about one square yard of fabric. We tend to think of towels as terry cloth so I don't want to call them that but they can be used after the bath to wrap baby. Receiving blankets come in many sizes. A common size for receiving blankets is 28x28 inches. These are larger at 36x36 inches. Swaddling blankets are usually about 47x47, so these are smaller than that (these are 36x36 after shrinkage, 39x39 before shrinkage). Our large birdseye diapers are about 31x31 and our small birdseye is about 28x28 inches. I swaddled my first baby with the 28x28 flannel receiving blankets and they worked fine but I do think a little larger size would have been better for swaddling. It can be used as a swaddle blanket but our intention is for diapering older babies, toddlers and preschoolers. We recommend fastening it with diaper pins. This nice fabric can have many other uses. Since it is plain without any prints or dyes, you know it will match everything now and far into the future when little baby prints aren't really ideal anymore for whatever purpose you find for it. Maybe we should call it a utility-fabric-square-yard-multi-use cloth item. Sold individually because you don't always need a pack of 4 of them. Wool is very good at balancing out the temperature; you are usually not too warm or too cold wearing it. An extra fine organic cotton lining on the inside allows the child to sleep in peace. It is the normal nature of the soft fabric and I think a slight crinkle is good because it helps them separate better for grabbing. This means that the wool can absorb up to a third of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or losing warmth. Wool is amazing, indeed. Since these are pants, if you don't have a cover under it, then you really need to have a nicely-fitting diaper on first, such as a correctly fitting fitted diaper or well-fastened prefold or flat. The pee must hit the cotton first to give the cotton the chance to absorb. If the diaper sags far away from baby's bottom, then the \"splash down\" effect can occur. The pee basically misses the cotton and since wool isn't plastic, don't expect it to work like plastic. It's not waterproof like plastic. It's wool. Shipping is a big expense.  Both of these factors add to the price of prewashed items and keeping prices down helps a bit. The industrial prewash has a slight laundry smell. We strongly prefer totally fragrance-free laundry products and don't want to bring anything with any odors into our fulfillment area.  GMD is fragrance-free and many of our customers have fragrance-free homes.  It takes fewer washes, usually just two cycles, to fully prep a blanket that is not prewashed - but takes about 5 cycles to wash out the prewash laundry smell from a prewashed muslin blanket. It makes good sense to not prewash them. This means line up the layers and get the edges to lay as flat as possible, especially on the long side. Spending a few minutes doing this will help your blanket lay flatter.  After the first wash, flatten the edges again before drying. Once washed and dried, the layers shrink together and become as one layer. This doesn't need to be done again.  Taking the time to get them lined up well in the beginning takes just a moment and is worth it. If you skip this step you might have slightly folded over edges on the long side but that is ok. It doesn't create a bump. It's fine.
